Why the ICF Coaching Supervision Specialization?

Coaching supervision offers more than reflection. It supports coaches to think more clearly, act more ethically and develop their practice with greater awareness and intention. The ICF Coaching Supervision Specialization establishes a professional benchmark for coaching supervision, strengthening quality, accountability and confidence across the coaching profession.

Grounded in the ICF Coaching Supervision Competencies, the ICF-CSS recognises coaching supervision as a distinct advanced professional practice and establishes clearer expectations for supervisor preparation and practice.

Reflective Practice

Ethical Practice

Professional Standards

Support greater consistency and accountability in coaching supervision.

Transparency and Trust

Strengthen confidence in the preparation and practice of professional coaching supervisors.

Practice-Based Supervision Development

Participants engage directly in coaching supervision through live practice, case exploration and guided reflection. Learning is grounded in real coaching situations and extends beyond performance evaluation to relational dynamics, ethical considerations and the wider systemic context of practice.

Developing the Coaching Supervisor as Practitioner

The programme develops more than supervision techniques. Through supervision of supervision, peer dialogue and faculty feedback, participants refine how they perceive, interpret and hold the supervisory space. Attention is given to presence, listening, ethical grounding and the ability to work with complexity.
